What is Calpol Infant Suspension?
- Calpol Infant Suspension is a strawberry-flavoured liquid medicine containing 120 mg of paracetamol per 5 ml.
- It is used to relieve pain and reduce fever in children aged 2 months and over.
- It can help with:
- Headaches
- Toothache and teething pain
- Earache
- Sore throat
- General aches and pains
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Fever/high temperature
- Post-immunisation fever
- Dosage depends on the child’s age, with doses ranging from 2.5 ml to 10 ml.
- Leave at least 4 hours between doses and do not exceed the recommended daily amount.
- Babies aged 2–3 months have specific requirements and should not receive more than 2 doses in 24 hours for pain or fever.
- For post-immunisation fever in infants aged 2–4 months, a 2.5 ml dose can be given up to 4 times in 24 hours.
- Shake the bottle well for at least 10 seconds before use and measure the dose using the supplied syringe.
- Do not give Calpol alongside any other medicine containing paracetamol.
- Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if your child takes other medicines or has liver/kidney problems or certain sugar intolerances.
- It is not suitable for children under 2 months or certain premature/low-weight infants.
- Do not use it for more than 3 days without speaking to a doctor or pharmacist.
- Adults can take it, but a more suitable adult paracetamol product is generally recommended.
