What is Nurofen Baby?

Nurofen Baby – Key Information

  • Active ingredient: Ibuprofen, which helps relieve pain, reduce inflammation and lower fever.
  • Suitable for: Babies and children from 3 months old and weighing over 5 kg (11 lb).
  • Can help relieve:
    • Teething and toothache
    • Minor muscular aches and pains
    • Sore throats
    • Cold and flu symptoms
    • Headaches
    • High temperature, including fever following immunisation

Before giving Nurofen Baby

  • Do not give it alongside other NSAIDs, such as aspirin or naproxen.
  • Do not give it if the child is taking more than 75 mg of aspirin per day.
  • Speak to a doctor or pharmacist if your child is taking other medicines, including:
    • Ibuprofen or other NSAIDs
    • Low-dose aspirin
    • Diuretics
    • Anticoagulants
    • Medicines for high blood pressure
    • Lithium
    • Methotrexate
    • Zidovudine
    • Corticosteroids
    • Cardiac glycosides
    • Ciclosporin or tacrolimus
    • Quinolone antibiotics
    • Antiplatelet medicines
  • Always read the patient information leaflet before use.

How to give Nurofen Baby

  • Shake the bottle well before use.
  • Push the dosing syringe firmly into the bottle opening.
  • Turn the bottle upside down and pull the syringe plunger to the required dose.
  • Turn the bottle upright and gently remove the syringe.
  • Place the syringe into the child's mouth and slowly press the plunger.
  • Replace the bottle cap after use.
  • Wash the syringe with warm water and allow it to dry.

Dosage

  • 3–6 months, over 5 kg: 2.5 ml, up to twice in 24 hours, with at least 6 hours between doses. Do not use for more than 24 hours without medical advice.
  • 6–12 months: 2.5 ml, 3–4 times in 24 hours.
  • 1–3 years: 5 ml, 3 times in 24 hours.
  • 4–6 years: 7.5 ml, 3 times in 24 hours.
  • 7–9 years: 10 ml, up to 3 times in 24 hours.
  • Leave at least 4 hours between doses unless the product leaflet specifies otherwise.
  • Do not use for more than 3 days without medical advice.
  • If symptoms persist, worsen, or you are unsure about the correct dose, speak to a doctor or pharmacist.

Important: The exact dose can depend on the specific Nurofen Baby formulation and the child's age/weight, so check the bottle and leaflet before administering it.

Swallow with water or a cold drink. Not to be chewed. Do not exceed the recommended intake.
